Venezuela takes Nelson Mandela’s legacy to promote peace

Before the attacks of the imperial powers that seek to undermine world peace and stability, the member States of the Non-Aligned Movement (Mnoal) -among them Venezuela- strengthen their anti-war stance with the aim of establishing a fair and equitable world order that is framed within the 2030 agenda for the sustainable development of nations, said the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza.

In his speech at the 73rd session of the United Nations Organization held in New York City, Arreaza referred to the legacy of Nelson Mandela as an example of a leader who fought against colonialism, racial discrimination and apartheid, which is why, he urged the effective implementation of the 2030 agenda to undertake actions in favor of the most vulnerable people, the strengthening of peace and the eradication of poverty, essential requirements for sustainable development.

“We use this opportunity to renew our commitment to the full and effective implementation of the 2030 agenda, to reaffirm our promise that no one is left behind. We reiterate our commitment to honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela and to keep alive his principles including solidarity and selfless dedication to the service of humanity in particular in the areas of conflict resolution, interracial relations, the promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, the rights of children, the struggle for democracy on an international scale and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world as well as in favor of the poorest and most underdeveloped communities” said the FM in his speech.

In this sence, the venezuelan diplomat called for the active participation of the international community in the implementation and promotion of a peace-making culture within the framework of the peace decade, Nelson Mandela, who assured that “peace is not simply absence of conflict, therefore we must redouble our efforts to establish on a world scale the conditions that lead to a sustained peace to genuinely promote a culture of peace through the effective approach of protracted conflicts, the root causes of terrorism and extremism, poverty in all its forms and dimensions, discrimination and xenophobia, intolerance and social injustices of all kinds”.

Finally, Arreaza indicated that Madiba’s legacy – as the South African leader was also known – is an essential part of the Bolivarian Revolution that puts the human being as an element for the construction of peace.

“Nelson Mandela, the man of solidarity, of equality, a socialist man in the best term of the word, an integral socialist who fought for peace, for the beauty of humanity”, he said.
