Venezuela protests energetically the meeting convened by the United States at the UN

The Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly protested the meeting in accordance with the “Arria formula” convened by the United States in the Security Council of the United Nations (UN), which has been considered as part of the systematic and continued campaign of hostility maintained by the US regime against the Venezuelan Government and People.

Through a Note of Protest delivered to the North American Charge d’Affaires in Caracas, James Story, by the Vice-minister for North America, Carlos Ron, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry also rejected the abuse of the Presidency of the Security Council when using resources destined for the use of of all the members of the UN, in order to attack a member state without the guarantee of their rights enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

Consequently, he ignored the meeting and its results. In addition, he refuted this and all attempts to destabilize Venezuela, whether diplomatic, political, economic or commercial.

The Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Relations, by reiterating that Venezuela is a free and sovereign nation, demanded the immediate cessation of these actions that violate not only the self-determination of the Venezuelan people but also the purposes of the UN and the Security Council.

The meetings held under the “Arria formula” are a relatively recent practice of the members of the Council. This type of meeting are of an “informal” nature, which does not constitute an activity of the Council, does not obligate or generate obligations to the States that are part of the main organ of the United Nations.

Publication of the New York Times

In another diplomatic note, the Foreign Ministry of Venezuela made reference to the article published in the American newspaper New York Times, dated September 8, 2018, and as a title: The Trump government discussed a possible coup with military rebels in Venezuela .

In this regard, and considering the accusations of alleged meetings between US diplomats and Venezuelan coup plotters, the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Relations asked Washington for a response that reflects the official position of the Donald Trump government.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry reiterated its energetic and profound rejection of any activity that seeks to intervene in the internal affairs of Venezuela.
