Venezuela and Brazil activate mechanisms to guarantee peace in Latin America

Venezuela’s defense minister, Vladimir Padrino López and his Brazilian counterpart, Joaquim Silva e Luna, met on Tuesday in Bolívar state to strengthen cooperation ties in defense matters and to activate the mechanisms that contribute to the re-establishment of the peace in the region damaged by imperial interventionism. In this context, Padrino López assured that the events that take place in the region, are part of the repercussions that brought about the issuance of the Obama decree, which declares Venezuela as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the security of the United States, matter that, in his opinion, affects the peace and tranquility of Latin America. “Since that decree appeared, a series of events that have threatened the national sovereignty through an interventionist attitude that adds nothing to regional peace”, he said. In this context, the Venezuelan Minister of Defense proposed to go to instances such as the South American Defense Council, a body for cooperation and coordination in military matters, attached to the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) to evaluate proposals that will preserve the region as an area of peace. “We want an area of peace that is absent from violence that allows cooperation, integration for development. Latin America is a region that can be a power in the world, it is indeed, in due to the given conditions of its people, the geographic conditions and the wealth that exist”, he said. In this sense, Padrino López, expressed his concern for the States that have associated themselves with multilateral organizations of a warlike nature such as NATO, reason why he insisted on activating a mechanism such as the South American Defense Council, a valid and pertinent instrument to discuss the threat situation that weighs on the region. With respect to the Venezuelan migratory movement, Padrino López, said that it is a consequence of the economic war, the blockade and the financial persecution that has been imposed on Venezuela with the aim of overthrowing the government of President Nicolás Maduro. “We insist on the matrix that has been built around a humanitarian crisis that does not exist and that they are using in multilateral organisms to intervene and attack Venezuela. An intervention in Venezuela would affect the region, a process of destabilization in Venezuela would undermine the peace of the region”, he said. Within the framework of the state policy Plan Vuelta a la Patria detailed that at least 2600 people have entered through Santa Elena de Uairen border between Brazil and Venezuela. For his part, the Brazilian Minister of Defense stressed that the meeting served to expand cooperation mechanisms, as well as to advance together in terms of training. “We celebrate an act of trust based on the two countries and the entire region that needs stability and peace to grow economically, politically and fraternally.” Photo Gallery:
