Venezuela condemns instrumentalization of the Security Council to intervene in internal affairs of the countries

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemned on Wednesday the instrumentalization of the Security Council of the United Nations by some countries under the humanitarian argument, to force the treatment of internal situations of sovereign countries, as is the case of Nicaragua, violating the mandates of this organ. The alternate ambassador of Venezuela to the UN, Henry Suárez, pointed out that the Republic of Nicaragua does not constitute a threat to regional and international peace and security, reason why this issue is outside the mandate of the Security Council. Likewise, he affirmed that the Latin American country currently enjoys social peace and stability, after having been the victim for almost four months of a wave of terrorist violence promoted by external factors. The constant unilateral aggressions by the US were also denounced and the international community was alerted to the warmongering plans that, together with Latin American countries, they intend to promote in regional forums such as the OAS to respond to its strategic interests, violating the right to self-determination of peoples. In this sense, the Venezuelan diplomat presented before the Security Council the permanent attacks that the US has carried out against Venezuela and Nicaragua, demonstrating the harassment and ambition to overthrow the democratic governments elected by their peoples, propitiating and financing an atmosphere of crisis in these countries “The treatment Nicaragua has been subjected to is very similar to the Venezuelan (…) Is it true or not that in February 2018 former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson openly called for the military uprising in Venezuela? Is it true or not that in September 2018 the Representative of the United States before the OAS threatened the integrity of President Nicolás Maduro if he attended the high-level segment that will take place in the coming weeks in the General Assembly of this Organization? We now ask the members of the Council: Who is the aggressor? Nicaragua? Venezuela? We are talking about proven facts and not about ‘fake news’ as the administration likes to describe the evidence”. He also rejected the instrumentalization of the Security Council by some countries under the humanitarian argument to succeed in promoting its policy of changing governments that has caused so much damage to the peoples of Africa and the Middle East, which in turn has led to humanitarian crisis of levels never before imagined that feeds the xenophobia in the countries that yesterday endorsed and applauded the western invasions in Iraq and Libya under proven false arguments. In this regard, he called on members of the Security Council not to allow themselves to be dragged back into the quagmire of history by one of the most obscurantist regimes of the recent times. To conclude, Ambassador Henry Suarez affirmed that history has shown that the Liberator Simón Bolívar, of whom the US ambassador makes mention in his speech, was not mistaken when he said in 1829, that “the United States seems destined by Providence to plague the America of miseries in the name of freedom “
