Venezuela denounces the looting and violation of its Consulate in Bogotá

The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, denounced on Monday night that the Consulate of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Bogotá has been completely vandalized and looted.

This fact shows the clear failure of the Colombian Government to comply with the provisions of Article 45 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which states that:

«In the event of a rupture in diplomatic relations between two States, or if a mission is definitively or temporarily terminated, the receiving State shall be bound to respect and protect, even in the event of armed conflict, the premises of the mission as well like its assets and files. «

The complaint was made through his Twitter account @jaarreaza:

«We denounce that the headquarters of the Venezuelan Consulate in Bogotá has been completely vandalized and looted. The Colombian authorities left it without protection, violating the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations. The Colombian State must respond.»

In February of last year, the president, Nicolás Maduro, announced the cessation of diplomatic and political relations between the two countries, after discovering the plans of aggression towards Venezuela orchestrated from Colombian territory, and the protection provided by the Iván Duque government to criminals and material authors of the 2018 attempted assassination.

«Patience is exhausted, I cannot keep supporting the lending of the territory of Colombia for an aggression against Venezuela, that is why I have decided to break all political and diplomatic relations with the fascist government of Colombia», he said on that occasion.
